List of helpful hints and tips for moving house and home
When you’re planning to move home, and have exchanged on your new house, there are some important things that you need to remember to do, to help ensure your relocation goes smoothly and with ease.
The following list should help you to prepare for moving day:
- Leave information for the people moving into your house. They may not know the neighbourhood. Good things to include would be:
- the location of the gas shut off, water shut off, electricity and gas meters, thermostat
- rubbish and recycling collection schedules
- your new address for forwarding mail etc.
- Check the distance and travelling time to the new house and make sure you have a route planned
- Check oil and water levels in your car before moving day
- Cancel newspapers, milk, window cleaners etc.
- Tell the following about your change of address:
- banks
- building societies
- dentist, doctors, NHS
- friends and family
- utilities
- DVLA for vehicle registrations
- home insurance
- car insurance
- life insurance, pensions
- Collect contact details for the removal company, estate agent, solicitor and make multiple copies in case of last minute issues
